What Is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle yet profound spiritual healing practice that originated in Japan in the early 1920s by Mikao Usui.
According to Reiki tradition, Usui experienced a profound spiritual awakening during a meditation retreat on Mount Kurama near Kyoto in 1922. Following this experience, he developed a system of healing and personal development that became known as Usui Reiki Ryōhō (Usui's Reiki Healing Method). The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words: Rei, meaning "Universal Wisdom" or "Spiritual Consciousness," and Ki, meaning "Life Force Energy" the vital energy that flows through all living things.
At its essence, Reiki is a sacred practice of connecting with this universal life force energy and allowing it to flow where it is most needed. Through intention, presence, and compassionate touch, Reiki supports harmony and balance on the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. It invites us to return to our natural state of peace, wholeness, and connection.
